Jets sweep weekend road trip with two wins

With the wins, the Jets move up in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League standings, currently sitting in third place with a record of 2-1-0-1, one point back of the Dartmouth Voyageurs for second place and three points back of the league-leading Admirals.

On Sunday, the Jets edged the ChiroCare Kings 3-2 in overtime at the Sackville Arena, thanks to a goal by New Waterford's Nicholas Pastuck, who returned to the team's lineup after serving a suspension.

Sackville/East Hants opened the scoring in the game with Matthew Revels finding the back of the net at 12:42 of the first period.

Cape Breton answered with a shorthanded goal by Ryan Chisholm at the 10 minute mark on the second period, tying the game 1-1.

The Jets would take a 2-1 lead at 13:04 of the third period with Brayden Larade's goal, but the ChiroCare Kings tied the game shortly after with Ryan DeWolfe's marker at 10:50 of the final frame.

In overtime, Pastuck gave Cape Breton the extra point, netting his first goal of the season at 2:25 of the extra frame.

Jonathan Dolomont picked up the win in goal. Marcus Pettipas was tagged with the loss.

On Saturday, the Jets opened the road trip with a 5-0 shutout over the Valley Wildcats at the Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick.

Cape Breton got on the board at the seven minute mark of the first period with a goal by Ben Leudy, sending the Jets into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The Jets took  2-0 lead in the middle frame with Larade beating Wildcats netminder Mason Kaizer with the assists going to Matthew MacIntosh and Jason Johnson.

Cape Breton extended their lead with a pair of power play goals by Nathaniel Fuller and Alec Campbell, just over a minute apart at the five minute mark of the third period.

Ethan Stanwick also added a goal for the Jets, securing the 5-0 win.

Andre LeClair made 27 saves for his first career Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League shutout. Kaizer turned aside 20 of 25 shots for the Wildcats.

The Cape Breton Jets will return to action on Saturday when they host the Dartmouth Voyageurs at 7:30 p.m. at the New Waterford and District Community Centre in New Waterford.
