Jets shutout on home ice by Kings

Three third period goals was the difference as the Sackville/East Hants ChiroCare Kings blanked the Cape Breton Jets 3-0 at the New Waterford and District Community Centre on Saturday.

The loss moves the Jets to sixth place in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League standings, dropping the teams record to 3-3-0-1. As for the Kings, they improve to 4-2-3-0 on the season and move into a tie for third place in the standings with the Basin Armada.

Cape Breton and Sackville/East Hants remained scoreless until the third period when Blake Whebby opened the scoring at the 14:13 mark, making the score 1-0. The Kings would add to their lead shortly after with a Matthew Revels goal at 10:03 of the period.

Sackville/East Hants secured the victory late in the final stanza with Revels' second goal of the game into an empty net goal with 51 seconds left in regulation time.

Grant Sanford made 29 saves for his first career NSMMAAAHL win and shutout for the Kings. Jonathan Dolomont stopped 20 of 22 shots for the Jets.

Cape Breton will return to action next weekend when they hit the road to play the Admirals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at St. Margarets Centre in Tantallon, before wrapping up the road trip with a game against the Basin Armada on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at the BMO Centre in Bedford.
