The Cape Breton Jets went into the weekend on a two-game losing streak, but leave the Halifax Regional Municipality with a pair of wins and four big points in the standings.The Jets finished the two-game weekend road trip with a 6-4 win over the Basin Armada at the BMO Centre in Bedford on Sunday.
Cape Breton got the scoring started in the contest with Xavier Johnson's goal at 6:18 of the first period, but the Armada would answer shortly after with Christian Hopkins finding the back of the net. The Jets regained the lead less than a minute later with Jason Johnson, making the score 2-1.
Basin again tied the game, this time with a power play goal coming off the stick of Connor Stone at 13:49 of the second period. Jason Johnson gave the visitors at 3-2 lead with his second goal of the game at 10:21 of the middle frame, but once again the Armada tied the contest with a Campbell Griffin marker at 3:29.
Nathaniel Fuller would send the Jets to the dressing room in the second intermission with a 4-3 lead, this after his unassisted goal at 2:10 of the middle stanza.
Cape Breton continued to pour on the offense in the third period, taking a 5-3 lead with a Ryan Chisholm marker at 4:16 of the period. The Armada cut the Cape Breton lead to one shortly after with Morgan Lake's goal at 3:41 of the final frame. The Jets sealed the deal with Jason Johnson completing the hat trick with 25 seconds remaining in regulation time, giving Cape Breton the 6-4 win.
Andre LeClair made 38 saves for the Jets, improve his record 2-1. Ty Allison stopped 24 of 30 shots for the Armada, his record falling to 2-1.
On Saturday, the Jets began the road trip with 2-1 win over the Admirals at St. Margaret's Centre in Tantallon.
The hometown team opened the scoring in the game with Michael McDonald's goal at 12:04 of the first period. Cape Breton answered less than a minute later with Aiden Donovan's unassisted goal, making the score 1-1.
Curtis Novak gave the Jets a 2-1 lead with a second period goal at 10:23, which later proved to be the game winner as Cape Breton would hold off the Admirals the rest of the way.
Jonathan Dolomont made 21 saves, improving his record to 3-3. Bryson Uberoi stopped 33 of 35 shots, his record falling to 2-3.
Cape Breton will return to home ice next weekend when they face the Basin Armada on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the New Waterford and District Community Centre. Admission is $5 each. Those 16 and under attend for free.
