Jets soar past Armada for third straight win

The Cape Breton Jets extended their winning streak on Saturday, defeating the Basin Armada 4-1 at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.

The Cape Breton Jets extended their winning streak on Saturday, defeating the Basin Armada 4-1 at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.

The Jets, currently on a three-game winning streak, improved their record to 6-3-0-1, while the Armada record falls to 6-2-1-0. Cape Breton now sits in third place in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League, tied with the Armada and Sackville/East Hants ChiroCare Kings with 13 points.

Cape Breton opened the scoring early in the game with Ryan Chisholm's power play goal at 13:13 of the first period, before New Waterford's Ben Leudy found the back of the net, making the score 2-0 for the Jets.

The Armada cut the Jets lead to one at 10:32 of the second period with Matthew Burden's goal, however Cape Breton regained the two-goal lead prior to the conclusion of the middle frame with Adam Wilson giving the Jets a 3-1 lead at 1:22.

The game remained 3-1 through the third period, before Nathaniel Fuller sealed the deal with an empty net marker with 26 seconds left in regulation time, helping the Jets skate to a 4-1 victory.

Jonathan Dolomont made 18 saves in the win for the Jets. His record improves to 4-3. Aiden Perry stopped 21 of 24 shots in the loss for the Armada. His record falls to 4-1.

Cape Breton continues the regular season next weekend when they travel to Kentville and Shearwater. The Jets will play the Valley Wildcats on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Kentville Centennial Arena, before playing the first place Dartmouth Voyageurs on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Shearwater Arena.
