Jets down Wildcats, Voyageurs to extend win streak

The Cape Breton Jets extended their winning streak to five straight games this weekend with wins over the Valley Wildcats and the Dartmouth Voyageurs on the road.


The Jets now sit tied for second in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League with an 8-3-0-1 record.

On Sunday, the Jets defeated the Dartmouth Voyageurs 5-4 at the Shearwater Arena.

Cape Breton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period with goals by Tanner Udle, shorthanded, Ben Leduy and Matthew MacIntosh. However, the Voyageurs would answer with single markers by league-leader Josh Crooks and Brendon Buchanan, cutting the Jets lead to one.

The visitors made the score 4-2 with Adam Wilson finding the twine 7:15 of the second period.

Crooks replied for Dartmouth with his second goal of the game, shorthanded, making the score 4-3 at 8:42 of the third period. Cape Breton regained the two-goal lead shortly after with a Nicholas Pastuck marker assisted by netminder Jonathan Dolomont. Hunter Canning would pull the Voyageurs to within one again later in the final stanza, but that's as close as they would come to tying the contest.

Dolomont made 28 saves in the win for the Jets. His record improves to 5-3. Aidan Durnford stopped 30 of 35 shots in the loss for the Voyageurs. His record falls to 5-2.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Cape Breton opened the road trip edging the Valley Wildcats 2-1 at the Kentville Centennial Arena in Kentville.

The Wildcats took the lead with 25 seconds remaining in the first period with Tyler Smith's marker, making the score 1-0 for the hometown squad.

The game remained 1-0 through the second period before the Jets tied the contest with a Jason Johnson power play goal at 17:53 of the third period. Cape Breton took a 2-1 lead 16 seconds later with Adam Wilson finding the back of the net, a goal which later proved to be the game winner.

Andre LeClair made 28 saves in the win for Cape Breton. His record improves to 3-1. Oliver McMahon stopped 32 of 34 shots in the loss for Valley, dropping his record to 3-3.

Cape Breton will continue the season next weekend with a pair of road games, wrapping up a four-game road swing. The team will play the Admirals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret's Centre in Tantallon. Meanwhile, the Jets will also play the Basin Armada on Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at the BMO Centre in Bedford.
