Jets finish four-game road trip with weekend split

Jets warm up prior to Saturday's game with Admirals.

The Cape Breton Jets wrapped up a four-game road swing by splitting a pair of games this weekend with the Admirals and Basin Armada.


On Sunday, the Jets (9-4-0-1) were edged 2-1 by the Armada (9-3-2-0) at the BMO Centre in Bedford, snapping the team's six game winning streak.

Cape Breton got the scoring started at 9:32 of the opening frame with Bryce MacKenzie finding the back of the net. The Armada answered before the period was over with Ben Bryant tying the game for Basin with 45 seconds left in the frame.

The game remained tied for the majority of the second period before Tyler Cook's shot beat Cape Breton goaltender Andre LeClair, making the score 2-1 for the Armada, a goal that provided to be the game winner

Ty Allison made 39 saves for Basin, improve his record to 4-3. LeClair was solid in the contest, stopping 41 of 43 shots for Cape Breton, his record falling to 3-2.

On Saturday, Cape Breton defeated the Admirals (8-3-1-1) 7-6 in a shootout in a wild game at the St. Margaret's Centre in Tantallon.

The Admirals opened the scoring in the game with Justin Brown's goal at 10:11 of the first period, but the Jets would respond with a pair of goals by Nathaniel Fuller to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The offense continued in the second period with Achim Duerr-Farrell and Jack Lettericke netting goals, giving the hometown team a 3-2 lead, before Adam Wilson tied the contest for the Jets with an unassisted goal at 6:50 of the middle stanza. Lettericke regained the lead for the Admirals with his second goal of the game prior to the end of the second period.

In the third period, the Admirals would take a 6-3 lead with goals by Connor Young and Lettericke, completing the hat trick. Cape Breton wasn't finished just yet, with the net empty on three occasions in the final 3:36 of regulation, Xavier Johnson's power play goal made it 6-4, which was followed by Fuller completing the hat trick at 1:47, and Nicholas Pastuck tying the game 6-6 with a marker at 21 seconds to send the game to overtime.

Despite the Jets outshooting the Admirals 12-7 in the extra frame, the contest would go to a shootout where Ryan Chisholm netted the winner, giving the Jets the extra point.

Overall, Cape Breton outshot the Admirals 61-47 in the game.

Jonathan Dolomont was brilliant between the pipes for the Jets, making 41 saves, improving his record to 6-3. Adam Fisher was just as good for the Admirals, turning aside 55 of 61 shots in the loss, dropping his record to 5-2.

Cape Breton returns to action to wrap up the first half of the season when they host the Dartmouth Voyageurs on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the New Waterford and District Community Centre. The game will mark the team's final contest before the Christmas break.
