Weekend Preview: Jets finish first half of season against Voyageurs

The Cape Breton Jets will wrap up the first half of their Nova Scotia Minor Midget 'AAA' Hockey League season this weekend on home ice.

The Jets (9-4-0-1) will host the Dartmouth Voyageurs (10-4-1-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the New Waterford and District Community Centre in New Waterford.

Cape Breton is tied for second place in the league's overall standings, one point back of the league-leading Voyageurs for first place in the seven-team league. The Jets lead the season series with the Dartmouth squad 2-0.

The Jets and Voyageurs last met earlier this month on December 3rd, a game Cape Breton won 5-4 at the Shearwater Arena. Dartmouth has the most goals in the league with 61, followed by the Jets with 47.

Cape Breton is led offensively by Nathaniel Fuller (nine goals and five assists) and Jason Johnson (seven goals and seven assists), both with 14 points on the year to date. Ryan Chisholm (four goals and seven assists), Nicholas Pastuck (four goals and six assists), Adam Wilson (five goals and three assists), and Ben Leudy (three goals and five assists) round out the top point getters for the team.

Meanwhile, Dartmouth is offensively powered by two of the league's top producers in Josh Crooks (11 goals and 10 assists) and Cole Good (three goals and 18 assists), both with 21 points. Hayden Welburn (six goals and six assists), James Harrison (three goals and nine assists), Brendon Buchanan (nine goals and one assist), and Benjamin Dewar (six goals and four assists) have also chipped in with the offense for the Voyageurs.

In goal, Jonathan Dolomont has appeared in nine games this season, posting a 6-3 record with a 3.06 goals-against-average and a 0.880 save percentage. Meanwhile, Andre LeClair has played in five games to date, posting a 3-2 record with a 2.20 goals-against-average and a 0.930 save percentage.

Aidan Durnford and Joshua McCarther share the goaltending duties for the Voyageurs. Durnford has appeared in eight games and has a 6-2 record with a 2.25 goals-against-average and a 0.920 save percentage. As for McCarther, he has played in seven games and has a 4-3 record with a 2.54 goals-against-average and a 0.920 save percentage.

Saturday's game will be the Jets' final contest before the Christmas break. The team will continue the regular season next month when they host the Basin Armada on Saturday, January 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the New Waterford and District Community Centre.
